Regulatory Advocacy and Government Representations
The following are the critical activities that rai will attend
to in areas of regulatory advocacy and government representations:-
Identifying
areas of concern and issues and preparing a charter for representing
to the concerned decision makers and resolving in all the relevant
retail and related areas.
Seeking
suggestions and issues from members for analyzing and representing
on the merits of the same to the decision makers.
Preparing
expert opinions and suggestions to make presentations relating
to critical issues to the goverment
Preparing
an outline of recommendations for the growth of the retail industry
and addressing factors in the retail sector contributing to
the growth of the country's economy for guiding the Government
in the draft of trade policies and regulation amendments
Developing
inputs to fuel the growth of the retail industry along with
guidelines for retail trade policies and regulation amendments
through periodical member interactions.
rai has been awarded membership to the
Forum for International Retail Association Executives (FIRAE) of NRF,
United States of America. rai will have affiliations with other such
international retail associations and federations. This will serve as
windows for learning and enabling the transfer of international standards,
best practices and benchmarks into our retail sector.
Retail education and training are the tools
by which rai will tackle the issue of lack of awareness of retailing
as a profession, dearth of retail talents and such an effort would
create a lot of employment opportunities in the retail sector.
rai, thru its research activities will provide
updated information to all its members as part of its member services.
The following are the activities planned to be taken up by rai:
rai As An Accrediting Body
rai will become as accrediting body for retail related education in
India. Once the courses are accredited by rai, the member companies
shall be assured of the quality of the course and this will enable easier
selection by the member companies.
rai will prescribe
a list of norms and parameters in terms of the required infrastructure
in educational institutions and B-schools, the course content
rating, faculty rating, relevant retail books and periodicals
in the library, etc.
rai will, for every accreditation
appoint a panel comprising experts from the retail industry who
will certify such accreditation to be given by rai.
Training and facilitation activities is a major
focus area for rai. The training activities will be aimed at facilitating
new entrants into the retailing sector and upgrading the skills and
knowledge levels of the existing retail owners, employees and managers.
The following specific tasks will be performed:
Creating basic retail
training modules in key vernacular languages to be easily delivered
in every functional area and in every category vertical
Arranging to organize modules in
every functional area and chosen retail sector vertical and create
a bank of training modules.
Running its own training sessions
- A monthly activity covering the whole country.
Running low cost training to benefit
the retail industry as a whole in frontline selling and store
management skills to facilitate business performance.
In order to create more trainers
in retailing rai will conduct ` train - the - trainer sessions
periodically.
rai will deliver online
retail training through chosen outsource portals. This will enable
even the rural masses to get trained through programmes hosted
on rais own website and outsourced portals. rai will organize
the content and the outsourced portals would digitize the same
for interactive web learning sessions.
rai will form the following for research and focused development:
The Retail Real Estate Committee:
rai proposes to generate information on real estate with the help
of its proposed real estate committee and host such information
on all its channels for use by its members.
The Retail Technology
Forum: Technology being the backbone of retail growth, we
intend forming a technology forum with experts from the field
of retail technology. This forum will contain members from the
technology areas of leading retailing companies who are members
of rai. rai will organize periodical meeting of this forum and
would chalk out plans for conducting seminars, knowledge sharing
initiatives, transfer of technology at the right cost for the
benefit of members companies, etc.
The Retail HR Forum: rai
proposes to form the retail HR forum in retailing that will enable
the sharing of knowledge, discuss relevant retail personnel growth
related issues, discuss methods of finding, nurturing and faciling
retail talents, discuss any statutory issues to be represented
to the decision makers, etc. This forum will have members from
the HR field of retailing companies who are members of rai. rai
will organize periodical meeting of this forum and would plan
activities like seminars, knowledge platforms, facilitating research
initiatives, etc.
