ReTechCon, the first
Retail Technology Conclave presented by the Retailers Association
of India was held on April 6th -7th 2005 at Hotel Hyatt Regency,
Mumbai. The two days conclave saw a participation of over 200
modern retailers.
In offered a platform
for retailers and retail technology service providers to exchange
useful insights on Retail Technology.
The inaugural address was given by B.
S. Nagesh, MD & CEO Shopper's Stop Ltd. on 'Strategic Retailing
in India, how does IT work', followed by the key note speech
given by Prof. Venkat Ramaswamy, Professor of Marketing and
Director of the Center for Experience Co-Creation at the Ross
School of Business at the University of Michigan on 'Co-Creation
experience of value with customers: The Future of Retailing.'
A steering committee comprising Chinar
Deshpande, CIO Pantaloon Retail India Ltd., T. M Unnikrishna
CTO, Shoppers' Stop Ltd., K.V.S. Seshasai, Head IT Trent Ltd.,
Abel Correa, GM Systems, Piramyd Retail Ltd. & C. K Nageswaran,
GMIT, Globus Stores chose the topics for ReTechCon carefully
while they organized the conclave efficiently. Gibson Vedamani,
CEO rai said "Retailers Association of India strives to
bring best practices to the Retail industry and its stakeholders.
This acted as the driving factor for the ReTechCon. Also the
2-day conclave was designed to introduce industry executives
to the most up-to-date information, services and advanced technology
standardization through demonstrations and case study presentations
by leading retail systems providers. Given the present boom
in Indian Retail Industry, a need was felt to create a platform
for retailers to interface with retail Technology vendors/ Service
providers, given that Technology today is one of the biggest
growth drivers for Retailers."
